Welcome to the Uganda blog! This will be a shorter blog because it is just an intro to the ministry we are doing here. So, firstly if you are not following the squads Instagram, let me be the first to tell you that there are new teams! Unfortunately, Manistry has ended so naturally we needed new teams. The team that I am on is called team fresh wind, because we felt like our time in Uganda was going to be a time of renewal for not only us as a team, but also for our ministry host.
Above is the new team, now I know that you recognize some of these people but let me introduce the team! From left to right we have Sarah (team leader), Me, Amanda, Alex, Areonah, Brice, and Mandy! So, now why don’t we get to the ministry part of the blog?
What is the ministry?
Well, we started off partnered with a church in Mukono, Uganda called New Life in Christ International Ministries, and while we were there, we had the amazing opportunity of preaching not only at the church we were partnered with but also doing street preaching and evangelism! We were there for 2 weeks and while we were there, we were able to lead people to know Christ and how good he is. Some background about Uganda is that it used to be colonized by the British around 1860-1962. Something we know about the British, is that they were a catholic nation around this time and so, since Uganda was colonized by these people, they developed sort of an inferiority complex, which is a lie from the enemy and should not be how ordinary humans view other ordinary humans, and because of this mindset they have developed, a lot of Ugandan people are Catholic or Christian in some sort of way, but a lot of them don’t really believe in God. It doesn’t really make sense right? How could you be Catholic, Presbyterian, Orthodox Christian but not believe in God? Well, it is because of this inferiority complex that I mentioned before. The people of Uganda, honestly without really knowing it, see a white person like me and want to relate to us in some way, and that just happened to be the faith of the people that colonized them. So, when we are ministering to these people, we had to emphasize the relationship that Christianity is, because even though Ugandans are a relationship-based people, having a relationship with God is hard for them to comprehend. Anyways, that’s enough of a history lesson for today, but we were also able to witness in these 2 weeks that we were in Mukono a few salvations, healings, and people start to understand what it means to have a relationship with Jesus! But that was only 2 weeks, so what else have we been doing? Well, when that 2-week timeframe was up, we joined the other team at their ministry host about 30 minuets from where we were staying for all-squad for the remainder of the time in Uganda. At our new ministry location, ministry has a few differences but not many. We still are partnered with a church, and we still get to do evangelism, the only difference is that instead of street preaching, we are now doing daily bible studies with people that we meet while evangelizing!
So, what’s life been like?
Well, unfortunately I have been sick for about 2 weeks now and I just recently found out that I have a bacterial infection in my intestines, which is not all that fun, but I am relying on God to heal me in His timing. Other than that life in Uganda is really good, 10/10 would recommend. All I would like to ask is that you pray for me to be healed from this sickness and, you knew it was coming, my fundraising. I am currently 43% funded, and wow God is so good. There are 4 people on my squad including me that are not completely funded yet and one of my squadmates received a message from their parents saying that they want to do a 72-hour matching challenge for us! Now what does that even look like? So, what this challenge is, is that some of the parents of my squadmates have pledged $2,800 in donations and within the 72 hours that the challenge is happening in any and all funds raised up to $2,800 USD will be matched by them! Now, when is this challenge? It begins on Friday, October 17th at 6:00 am CST and ends on Monday, October 20th at 6:00 am! So, pray about supporting me, one of my squadmates or all 4 of us! You do not have to support financially but pray about it and if the lord leads you to partner with us, do so any and all financial gifts are appreciated! Below I have attached the graphic for this funding challenge, it would be awesome if you could share it to the people you know!
